Double-speaking Kenneth Okonkwo accuses Tinubu of planting Abure as government agent in LP

Kenneth Okonkwo, after bad-mouthing Peter Obi for much of last week, saying he caused the rift in the Labour Party (LP), shifted ground at the weekend to point accusing fingers at Bola Tinubu of using his presidential leverage to fund Julius Abure to distabilise the party on whose platform Obi contested the 2023 presidential ballot.

Okonkwo alleged in an interview with Symfoni TV on Saturday that Abure is a government agent planted in the LP to undermine it.

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court ruled that Abure is no longer the Chairman of the LP, his tenure having expired, but the man has refused to vacate the office and rather turned round join other renegades to attack Obi.

Okonkwo, who was once close to Obi in the LP, alleged that the executive led by Abure lied and misled Obi at some point but the former candidate still recognised them publicly.

“I told Obi that these people had become agents in the hands of the government to destabilise him. And after saying all those things, within like 72 hours, Obi went back to Abure’s office to publicly endorse them,” Okonkwo said.

Obi himself has accused Tinubu along with the goons in his administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating and bankrolling the crisis in the LP for personal political gain and to ensure state capture in which opposition parties are vanquished.

The LP is currently split into three factions – one each led by Nenadi Usman appointed by the Obi group as acting National Chairman, Abure, and Lamid Apapa historically fingered as a Tinubu plant in the party.
