Dotun Oladipo: NGE celebrates late journalist’s courage, service
The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has joined in mourning the publisher of Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, describing him as a “gentleman” and “distinguished journalist”.
In a statement signed by the NGE President, Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, the guild said it received “with profound sadness” the news of Oladipo’s passing.
The guild said Oladipo, who had a journalism career spanning several decades, distinguished himself through professionalism, courage, intellectual depth and a strong commitment to journalism and nation-building.
“In a career spanning several decades, Dr. Oladipo distinguished himself through professionalism, courage, intellectual depth and an unwavering commitment to the principles of journalism and nation building,” the statement said.
The NGE added that his contributions to the profession and the wider media industry “left an indelible mark.”
It also highlighted Oladipo’s role in the development of digital journalism, noting that “as a former publisher of an online publication, he was deeply committed to the growth and development of the Nigerian media and the digital landscape.”
The guild described the late journalist as a committed member whose involvement strengthened the professional body.
“He was a committed member of the NGE, whose contributions added impetus to the growth of the elite media professional body,” it said.
According to the statement, Oladipo’s membership of the guild reflected his “strong belief in professional solidarity and the importance of promoting ethical, credible and responsible journalism.”
Beyond his work as a journalist and publisher, the NGE said Oladipo was “not merely a media practitioner but also a respected colleague, mentor and contributor to the continuing evolution of the Nigerian media landscape.”
The guild described his death as “a great loss to his family, colleagues, the journalism profession and the wider media community.”
It said he left behind “a legacy of hard work, professional excellence, courage and service that will continue to inspire those who knew and worked with him.”
The NGE extended its condolences to Oladipo’s immediate family, colleagues, friends and associates, while praying for strength for the family during the difficult period.
“We pray that God will grant the family the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss as well as grant the departed journalist eternal rest,” the statement added.
The guild prayed that Oladipo’s memory would remain a blessing and that his contributions to Nigerian journalism would endure.
“May Dr. Sampson Dotun Oladipo’s memory remain a blessing to those who knew him, and may his contributions to journalism endure,” the NGE said.
