The Speaker of House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and other lawmakers representing Bauchi have paid N3.7 million medical bills of some patients at Abubakar Teaching Hospital Bauchi.
The Speaker disclosed this while on sympathy visit to patients at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi.
Dogara sympathized with patients in health centres who have inadequate access to medical facilities, especially at this period of economic recession and appealed to staff of the hospital to put in their best in medical services.
While describing health as the foundation of wealth, Dogara noted that it is difficult nowadays for people to pay their medical bills, hence his resolve in partnership with some members of the National Assembly representing the state to give helping hands to patients in the hospital.
Accordingly, he said, they have in partnership contributed
N2.5 million as assistance to some patients at the Teaching Hospital, Bauchi to offset their medical bills.
Dogara, who has some members of the National Assembly during the visit that include Senators Ali Wakili, Nazif Suleiman Gamawa and Representative Ahmed Yerima, went round three wards of the hospital during the visit.
In the same token, Dogara himself as the Speaker of House of Representatives made donations to some patients that include 20 cancer patients – N500, 000, some Kidney patients – N66, 600, a police officer in the state who was recently shot by a colleague –N200, 000, among others, totaling the donations to N1, 266, 600.
Dogara, will this Saturday similarly commission some projects in his federal constiency that comprised Bogoro, Dass and Tafawa Balewa local government areas of Bauchi State.
Among the projects to be commissioned included renovated police station and quarters, electrification projects, blocks of classrooms in the three council areas, Town Hall, Jummu’at Mosques and Churches, Teachers Houses, skills acquisition centres, market stalls, hospital equipment and ambulance, as well as electricity transformers, among others.
It would be recalled that 5,000 patients from 20 local government areas of Bauchi state last year benefitted from Dogara’s medical outreach programme in which various ailments affecting people were treated free of charge.
