Do politicians’ children really vote?

-

During campaign period for the elections, many Nigerians believed that the politicians would relocate their family, especially the children, abroad, so that they would not be victims of election violence, if it happens.

Thus, some discerning youth resolved not to be used as political thugs by politicians who will not allow their children or family members be in the forefront of political campaigns.

However, what politicians who do this do not take into consideration is the fact that they are disenfranchising their children.

On the election days, pictures and videos of politicians casting their votes with their wives in tow were widely circulated.

The question arises: Where are the children? Why are they not voting? Are they not eligible? If other eligible children abstain, what would have been their fate?

One picture, however, was consoling. Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State was on the queue in his ward with his wife and son.

Charity begins at home. If members of the political class are so concerned about young people getting involved in voting, they can encourage others by showing us pictures of their children doing same.
