Divine supply

“And God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19)

God’s action-plan to supply every need of His people is brought to the fore in times like this. There is no better time than now to really demonstrate ample grace to provide sufficiently for those who are living in Christ Jesus. This season opens the score of great provision materially; in other words, we’ve really come into a season of abundant supply.

Our passage above is loaded with treasures of heavenly value, showing what kind of supply, who supplies them, and the manner He does the supply.

My God will generously supply every need of yours as you continuously live in Christ.

Here, we may picture a father who had over time lived in abject poverty so much that the children are daily exposed to the ridicule of lack among their peers. And here comes an assurance of God’s ability to supply sufficiently the need of the home, not in a mean way, in an incredible manner that silences their mockers.

Nevertheless, there are steps we must take to earn the supply:

You must make Him your God: Apostle Paul enjoyed great intimacy with God that he undoubtedly depended on Him for provision at the time of need. God was his, not someone who his ancestors worshipped long ago. God was someone who was around him and to whom he had become a willing slave, and with whom he had a special relationship. It is important to note that each child in a family has a different relationship with his father (and no one else). So I can really truly make God mine and He becomes one. The psalmist used the same language: “The Lord is my shepherd” (Ps 23). “O God thou art my God; early will I seek thee” (Ps. 63). It is true that whenever we pray to God and serve Him, we do so as members of His church. Yet there are things that I (and no one else in the world) can say to God, just because I am myself; and there is no one who has my joys and my temptations. There are things that God wants me (and no one else) to do. So I can truly make God mine and He becomes one.

You must acknowledge the source of supply: Another important fact is that God is our dependable supplier and He supplies not according to the robustness or buoyancy of world economy, for certainty world economy is in constant danger of collapse. Instead, He supplies according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. This guarantees a ceaseless flow of His treasure typified not only in gold and silver, but in the release of His peace and tranquility as well (Phil. 4:7). He, who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food, will supply and multiply your resources (In 2 Cor. 9:10).

You must appreciate the volume of His supply: The indices of His supply are measured according to His unending riches. The riches of His kindness, and forbearance and peace (Rom. 2:4). Then in Glory “symbolic of, status, wealth, beauty, shining brightness”. It flows from the measureless jar of mercy and love.

In Gen. 45:13, Joseph said: “Tell my father of all my glory in Egypt.” His glorious riches in Christ Jesus also show the true measure of God’s blessings to the Church.

Friends, as humans, we have the tendency to see our need as either too large to even ask God to handle or too small for Him to be concerned with. We are always forgetful. Like the disciples of Jesus who doubted his ability to provide bread for the hungry campers in the desert (Matt. 14:16), we must be reminded of the God of history.

He is the provider. He had before now provided manna and quail in the desert for the grumbling community of Israel. He also clothes the lilies and sustained an entire generation with water in the wilderness. Your matter is too small for God to address. He is the God of five loaves and two fish. He is the Creator and Sustainer of all that is. Is anything too difficult for Him?

What is your need? Whatever it is, it is entirely God’s concern.
