Disqualified Nigerian athletes protest in Tokyo, threaten court action

-

Ten Nigerian athletes in Tokyo Japan who were recently declared ineligible by the Athletics Integrity Unit of World Athletics to participate in the track and field event of the Tokyo Olympics have taken to the street to protest.

Reports from Tokyo revealed that there are strong indications that the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) would be dragged to court for negligence and pay damages to the athletes.

“The athletes are seeking strong partnership with the civil society” the report started. “They (Athletes) are not willing to let this go after doing their own part to qualify for the event”.

However, the placards carried by the athletes in the course of the protest reads as follows: “Why should we suffer for someone’s negligence” “ALL WE WANTED TO DO IS TO COMPETE”. amongst others.

Sadly, the athletes did their best by qualifying for the Olympics but were met with a sudden disqualification from participating following the negligence of the AFN
