Popular Nollywood actor and lawmaker representing Surulere I constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has claimed that his security aides were withdrawn ahead of his party’s primaries.
He levelled this allegation a few days before the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly primary election for the Surulere axis of Lagos State, which is scheduled to hold on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.
This development comes amid a declaration by the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, that he had withdrawn his support for the thespian following Elliot’s role in the botched impeachment of the Lagos House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, in 2025.

Reacting to the development, Desmond, who is currently serving his fourth term in the Lagos Assembly, noted that he was misunderstood and tendered an apology to Gbajabiamila during an appearance on TVC.
However, speaking in a video currently trending on social media, the actor-turned-politician accused party leaders and local government officials of coercing party members into supporting a preferred aspirant.
Stating that some local government officials had been removed from their positions due to their support for him, he said: “Intimidation, coercion, twisting, and forcing people to follow their own candidate is what is happening today in Surulere. They are telling them they will not be beneficiaries of certain empowerment schemes.
“We have been intimidated so much that a lot of people have been fired from the local government because they support me. My security personnel were also taken away from me yesterday. I am now left completely to myself. What have I done?”
