The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Bar. Kingsley Otuaro will lead the battle against AC Leopards of Republic of Congo on Saturday, June 6 at the Warri City Stadium as Warri Wolves try to overturn a 3-0 deficit recorded in the first leg of this year’s CAF Confederations Cup competition.
Already, the Congolese team stormed Warri with about 80 supporters with drums in a chartered flight which landed in Port-Harcourt on Thursday afternoon and will go back on Sunday in the same flight.
In a bid to fully mobilize Nigerians for the match, the Management of Warri Wolves has declared the gate free provided fans are on a blue T-Shirt and have also made an arrangement for adequate security and appealed to the fans to be law abiding.
Media Officer of the team, Moses Etu in a chat with our correspondent, said all hands have been put on deck for the successful execution of the match.
He said: “We are happy that the Government is fully involved and the Deputy Governor, Bar. Otuaro will lead the battle.
“This is the first time in over 10 years that somebody of his caliber will be watching Wolves play. I make bold to say that no Commissioner, no House of Assembly member has watched Wolves in the last few years.
“This is a new dispensation and we hope things work for us. We have also provided adequate security but the most important thing is for our fans to be law abiding. All they need to do is to cheer every move of our players and maintain the support to the end of the match.”
Meanwhile, the city of Warri is agog for this match which no doubt promises to be explosive judging by the preparation of the two teams.
Etu confessed that the encounter will be tough judging from the fact that the visitors will not want to go down without fighting.
He said: “No doubt, this match will be tough and explosive. Wolves are fully ready and our opponents too are ready if they can come to the country with such a large crowd.
“Nigerians just need to pray and see that things work well on Saturday. The players have also promised to be in their best in the match and come out smiling at the end of the day.
It will be recalled that Warri Wolves is the only remaining Nigerian side team in any of this year’s continental assignments after the likes of Enyimba of Aba, Kano Pillars of Kano and Dolphins of Port Harcourt have all crashed out.
