Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju has said claim by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) that fellow activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore, was not manhandled while the custody is false.

He countered the assertion in a post he shared on his official Facebook page on Saturday.

TheNiche had earlier reported that Sowore was taken into custody on Wednesday, after arriving at the NPF headquarters in Abuja to honour an invitation from the Inspector-General of Police monitoring unit over a petition.

The former presidential candidate was later captured in a viral image having a bandaged arm.

But the police in a statement on Friday night denied torturing the activist, stating that the image was” mischievously presented to mislead the public and stir unwarranted outrage”.

Reacting to the claim, Adeyanju said the Force lied, insisting that Sowore was tortured in custody.

He went on to say the  Inspector General of Police (IGP) and his officers will “pay for their crimes”.

He wrote, “You are a liar. The Nigeria police headed by the illegal IGP Egbetokun, the most useless IG in the history of the NPF tortured SOWORE and broke his hands. And you will all pay for your crimes”.
