Activist Deji Adeyanju has said he is in support of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to continue its industrial action.

ASUU began its industrial action over issues such as the provision of funds for the revitalisation of public universities; payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA)/Earned Allowances (EA); payment of salary shortfalls; an end to the proliferation of state universities, renegotiation of a 2009 agreement; adoption of University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) as a payment platform for university teachers and payment of non-remitted check-off dues.

Adeyanju said in a tweet on Monday that ASUU has his full support, noting that the union should resist tyranny.

The activist added that if the nation’s education sector was working, no politician would send his children to schools abroad or pay huge amount for private school in Nigeria.

“ASUU has my 100% support to continue the strike. They should resist the bullying and tyranny of the Govt. If our educational system was working, many of us will not be paying millions in private universities neither will politicians’ kids be going abroad. ALUTA CONTINUA!” Adeyanju wrote.

The Federal Government said last week through the minister of education Adamu Adamu that the only thing left in negotiation is disagreement over the government’s no work, no pay rule.

ASUU is demanding payment of salaries since the strike began in February.
