De Ligt, Mazraoui claim Ten Hag convinced them to join Man United

De Ligt and Mazraoui who officially joined the Red Devils on Tuesday night were signed from Bundesliga club, Bayern Munich

Manchester United’s new signings, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui have disclosed that Erik ten Hag played a key role in their decisions to join the English Premier League (EPL) club this summer.

The Red Devils on Tuesday night confirmed the signing of both players from Bundesliga side, Bayern Munich.

De Ligt, a Dutch international and compatriot of Ten Hag signed a contract that will see him remain at Old Trafford Stadium until June 2029, with an option to extend the deal for a further year.

On his part, Mazraoui, signed a deal that would keep him at the Manchester club until June 2028, with the option to extend for a further year.

Speaking to the club’s website after completing the deal, De Ligt said: “As soon as I heard that Manchester United wanted me, I felt an excitement about the opportunity for a new challenge at such an historic club.

“Erik ten Hag shaped the early stages of my career, so he knows how to get the best out of me and I cannot wait to work with him again.”

Also speaking on how the Dutch tactician influenced his decision to sign for the EPL club, Mazraoui said: “Erik ten Hag played an important part in my development as a player, so it is exciting to be reuniting with him as I enter the prime years of my career.

“I know what he expects from his players, and I will give everything to help the group be successful.”
