Dare inaugurates panel to reconcile aggrieved parties

Dare takes steps to resolve the crisis in the NBBF following the crisis that has rocked the federation since 2017 election of Kida

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, has constituted a seven-man reconciliatory committee to resolve the lingering crises rocking the Nigeria Basketball Federation(NBBF).

A statement signed by the Permanent Secretary Ismaila Abubakar, and Obtained by TheNiche stated that the Ministry gave the terms of reference of the committee as looking into the claims of the contending parties for the leadership of the NBBF and reviewing any other matter or areas of conflict.

Dare, Kida make peace, agree on NBBF election shift

Apart from amicably resolving the disagreements and disaffections within the NBBF, they are also to reposition the game of basketball for development in Nigeria.

The members of the NBBF Reconciliatory Committee are:
Mr Seyilayo Ojo(chairman)
Alhaji Abba Abdullahi Yola(vice chairman)
Babs Ogunade(member)
Mukhtar Khaleeh(member)
Niyi Alebiosu(member)
Ikeddy Isiguzo(member) and
Dr.(Mrs) Toyin Aluko(Secretary).

The latest crisis in the NBBF was triggered by the conduct of its election. Dare had asked Kida to postpone the by-election. But Kida in a press release he personally signed and obtained by TheNiche rejected earlier directives from the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development directing that the elections be postponed indefinitely.

Kida said the attention of the NBBF was drawn to the unsigned Press Release credited to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports (FMY& S), and dated 24th October 2021, stating that the NBBF Elective Congress slated for Benin City, Edo State, on the 30th of October, 2021, as approved by the NBBF Extra-Ordinary Congress of 9th October, 2021, in Abuja, which was in line with the provisions of the 2019 NBBF approved Statutes, has been postponed indefinitely.
