Peter Obi’s national acceptability at home, and across large swathes of Diaspora Nigerians in far flung countries, unmatched by his fellow runners for the Villa, has been gingered up with the conferment on him of a honorary citizenship of Dallas.

The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate was conferred with the honorary citizenship by Eric Johnson, the Mayor of Dallas  in Texas, United States.

“I had the privilege of being conferred with the honorary citizenship of Dallas. I also met with a select group of Texas Judges,” Obi twitted on Wednesday.

He disclosed he had an interactive session with young professionals in Dallas, where he discussed his strategies to solve Nigeria’s multifaceted problems, if elected President, and how Diaspora Nigerians can play a role in rescuing their country.

“The diaspora community can be effectively mobilised as true assets for the rapid development of our country. The Nigerian diaspora can play a major role in helping Nigeria transform its education sector.”

Diasporans to help deliver healthcare, education, stimulate business

Obi stressed diasporans also have a role to play in healthcare and other sectors,  and  urged medical practitioners abroad to repatriate resources by collaborating with the federal and state governments to expand healthcare delivery, per The Guardian.

“The Nigerian Diaspora also has a critical role in healthcare and allied matters. It is important that our spiraling exodus of Nigerian medical practitioners abroad should start yielding some dividends back home through improved quality of healthcare delivery, infrastructure and personnel, arising from skill transfer.

“Opportunities also abound for proactive collaboration between the diaspora community and the federal and state governments in expanding healthcare delivery; improving the quality of our healthcare system as well as ensuring skill transfers to locally-based practitioners.

“Nigerian Diaspora remittances now augment and support education, promote entrepreneurship and stimulate businesses, and investments in healthcare in addition to foreign remittances.”
