Comptroller General of Customs Strike Force Team A, covering Lagos and South-West has recovered N426,349,173 revenue from demand notices raised between April and later part of May 2021.
The team also achieved 5 seizures amounting to a total duty paid value of N338,660,671 within the same period
“Within the period under review, the team made seizures worth a total duty paid value of N338,660,671 due to series of contraventions on some sections of the customs clearance procedures and extant laws. These seizures are products of credible intelligence and meticulous documentary checks” he said.
He gave a breakdown of the seizures to include 575 bales of second hand clothing,1440 cartons of super market goods;664 cartons of drugs without National Agency for Food Drug Administration (NAFDAC) registration numbers;530 cartons of footwear and 1,600 bags of foreign parboiled rice.
Shuaibu had earlier showed reporters some very harmful and prohibited tramadol capsules with what he called capacity for 12 horse power seized by his men.
He said the drug which can keep consumers awake and active for many days have far reaching damaging effects on lives and has therefore been seized to prevent access to the open markets and protect the country’s youths from the damaging effects
He explained further that hard drug consumption is at the core of many criminal activities such as robberies, Kidnapping, banditry and others and should be prevented from penetrating the society
