Apapa has again been hoisted by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) as its poster port, generating N16,021,660,412 revenue per day, the highest level nationally, thanks to its location in Lagos, the country’s commercial hub.

The amount is the highest daily revenue in the history of the Command, up on N11.3 billion collected on 22 November 2023 and N10 billion on 3 August 2023.

NCS Apapa Area Controller Babajide Jaiyeoba described the feat as one of the expected benefits of the strategies he devised, and urged his officers to keep up the tempo of zero tolerance of infractions of the NCS Act (NCSA) 2023.

He said the revenue collection amid declined volume of trade is achieved as a result of weekly strategy meetings between him and sectional heads to review and evaluate success and challenges to improve on achievements.

There are also regular stakeholder engagements between the Command, sister government agencies, importers, exporters, terminal operators, and other stakeholders in cargo clearance and supply chain to meet the target.

Stakeholders confirmed remarkable improvement in the number of containers being scanned in Apapa to save time and operate in line with modern Customs administration.

Jaiyeoba commended officers of the Command for their dedication to duty exemplified through punctuality and integrity, per The Nation.

  • Described sincere declaration of goods as a mark of integrity that saves time and money, resulting in a win-win situation for everyone.

Not making a sincere declaration is a poor business decision that causes delays, he stressed, leading to issuance of demand notices and denying the declarant of fast tracking and possible migration to Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status.
