Customs destroys N100m medical items

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said that it destroyed seized expired medicament  with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of over N100 million at Seme command.

The command helmsman, Mohammed Aliyu Alhaji said the expired medicament and other items were some of the items in the government wAarehouse at the command.

This is contained in a statement made available to our correspondent  by Saidu Nuruddeen Abdullahi, Customs Public Relations Officer Seme Area Commandin.

The Controller disclosed that the expired and hazardous medicament seized and destroyed has a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of One Hundred and Two Million, Four Hundred and Eighty Eight Three Hundred Naira (102,488,300).

The Controller carried out the destruction exercise in company of the presence of the Director General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Professor Mojisola Christiana Adeyeye and Director Ports Inspection Directorate of the Agency, Professor Samson Adebayo who were in the Command for a working visit.

Alhaji noted that the destruction exercise was in compliance with the service extant laws where the relevant agencies like NAFDAC, NDLEA and SON were principal witness.l

Some of the medicaments destroyed include: Tramadol caps and tabs, Codeine, Diazepam tabs, Analgen injection, Medik- 55 pacrcetamol with caffeine, Mosquito coils,

Dexamethasone tabs, expired rice, expired fertilizer and expired seasoning among others.

The Commands helmsman further stated that he would continue to implement government policies of seizing and handing over to the relevant agencies such as National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) dangerous and illicit drugs that are smuggled through the land border. He warned drug traffickers to keep off from Seme border route as any attempt to smuggle such will be discovered by the eagle eyes of the enforcement team.
