Celebrity barman Pascal Chibuike, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has raised objection in court to his prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged naira abuse.

His counsel Chukosolo Ojukwu told the Ikoyi Federal High Court in Lagos at his arraignment on Wednesday the defence team has filed an application opposing the trial.

The defendant has pleaded not guilty to the charge and also filed an application for bail.

Crossdresser Bobrisky (born Idris Okuneye) pleaded guilty to the same offence about three weeks ago and was on April 12 jailed six months with no option of fine, a punishment the Judge said is meant “to serve as a deterrent to others” who sprayed or want to spray naira.

Nigerians on social media have tasked the EFCC in its new vigour to prosecute celebrities for spraying naira to also arrest and prosecute President Bola Tinubu’s daughter, Folashade, who was recorded on video over four years ago spraying naira, an offence she committed after the law against it was made.

Netizens have also called the attention of the EFCC to a video of Folashade Tinubu, daughter of President Bola Tinubu, who was once caught ‘spraying’ naira notes on the Akogun of Egba.

Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) reports the video was published on 11 December 2019 and has remained in the public domain ever since.

Netizens who shared the six-minute footage of Folashade throwing wads of naira notes in the air asked the EFCC to charge her to court like other naira abusers.

Naira abuse contravenes Section 21 (3) of the CBN Act, 2007.
