One Islamic cleric Kabiru Ibrahim has been sentenced to death by hanging for killing his client Lukman Adeleke who recruited him as a spiritual consultant.
Judge Lateef Adegoke of an Osun High Court in Iwo ruled that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and found Ibrahim guilty of murder and theft.
The convict was handed a seven-year jail term for stealing and death by hanging for murder, based on his charge with conspiracy, murder, and theft, which violate to Sections 324, 319(1), and 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 34, Laws of Osun State.
A statement issued by Justice Ministry spokesperson Opeyemi Bello narrated that at trial, the prosecution led by Abiodun Badiora told the court that Ibrahim was a spiritual consultant to Adeleke.
The statement said Adeleke informed Ibrahim about his plans to buy a plot of land and the cleric asked him to bring money for an overnight prayer before proceeding to pay the land vendor.
But the family of the deceased disclosed that Adeleke went missing after his contact with Ibrahim for prayers.
A search party was sent out and Adeleke’s family was informed that he was last seen when he visited Ibrahim for prayers.
