Cornel’s new single ‘Promise’ creates buzz
Cornelius Ogar, known as Cornel in the showbiz world, has caused a stir on the Internet with his newly-released single, ‘Promise’.
Promise has become one of the best music videos shot in South Africa, making some of the viewers ask for a complete album from Cornel.
Produced and co-written by the legendary Cobhams Asuquo and the video shot in Johannesburg South Africa, ‘Promise’, released on Valentine’s Day of 2025 is an expression of love and declaration of selflessness.
According to Cornel, who won StarQuest with D’Accord in 2006, and was runner-up to The Voice Nigeria, the song is a celebration of a perfect union by two imperfect people, who have sworn to love each other unconditionally and celebrate genuine friendship that will last a lifetime.
The blend of the talking drums and other African instruments make this Afropop song stand out.

Music seems to run in his family, as Sonofuche, his younger sibling that sang in his band, De Nu Generation Band, is a US Army officer, who has refused to let music be. While still in the US Army, Sonofuche recently released ‘Big Bigger Biggest ‘
A graduate of Creative Art (Music) from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Cornel has done vocal and choir arrangements for notable musical artistes such as Patoranking’s Wilmer Album 2019.
The experienced vocal and choir trainer has featured in ‘Tinsel’ and ‘The Damned’.
He has also played prominent roles in the following musicals: ‘Mamamia’, ‘Joseph and his Technicolor Dreamcoat’, ‘The Promise’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ and many more.
Cornel released his solo debut single ‘Smile Again’ in December 2016 with a Christmas song entitled ‘Africa/Naija Christmas and ‘No Lies’ in 2022.
