The Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has appealed to the new Bishop of Mbamili Diocese, Anglican Communion, Onitsha, Rev Obiorah Uzochukwu, to continue the promotion of education in the  diocese as his predecessor did.

The Anambra State former governor pointed out that people from such remote areas [Mbamili] needed the assistance of the church, otherwise most of them would not have access to education.

Obi gave the advice during the consecration of the bishop-elect of Mbamili Diocese at the All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha.

His words: “No one takes the honour upon himself; but it is called by God. I pray that the grace of God that has singled Bishop Uzochukwu out for the spiritual leadership of Mbamili Diocese, will aid him to take the Diocese to a new level.”

Obi also expressed joy over the consecration of the new bishop, which was presided over by the Primate of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, His Grace Henry Ndukuba.

Besides, Obi reaffirmed his membership of Mbamili Diocese, stressing that he discovered the perculiar needs of the Diocese when he was the governor of Anambra State and decided to take up the membership of the Diocese to help contribute to its growth.

Obi however congratulated the newly consecrated bishop, while expressing hopes that he would take the Diocese to greater heights.

Meanwhile, Mr. Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, has expressed sadness over the death of the former governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, at 91.

Obi said that Jakande would be remembered as one of the best among his  peers, whose investment in critical areas, especially  education would remain inspirational. Describing his death as a painful loss, not just to Lagos State, but to the  entire country, Obi said, “the homage we owe people like him is the continued striving to build the country they dreamt of but could not achieve through what he was known for:  Service clothed with humility, honesty and integrity.”
