Conte suffers ‘severe’ abdominal pain, to undergo surgery

Conte after the surgery is expected to miss some games, one of which is the PL fixture against Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium

Tottenham Hotspur has announced that their head coach, Antonio Conte, will undergo immediate surgery after suffering severe abdominal pain on Wednesday morning.

The Italian fell ill earlier this week and after a medical examination, the former Chelsea boss was diagnosed with cholecystitis – a condition that causes redness and swelling of the gallbladder.

The club has graciously given him a leave of absence, so that he can undergo surgery today to remove his gallbladder. 

The 53-year-old Italian manager is expected to miss a number of games  after the impromptu surgery.

Conte and his men next play against defending champions, Manchester City in a Premier League fixture and his assistant, Cristian Stellini is expected to take charge of the Lilywhites in the Sunday encounter.

A statement from the club on Wednesday confirmed the development, stating that the Italian tactician will be away from his duties for a while to recuperate.

The club statement read: “Antonio recently became unwell with severe abdominal pain. 

Following a diagnosis of cholecystitis, he will be undergoing surgery to remove his gallbladder today (Wednesday) and will return following a period of recuperation. Everyone at the club wishes him well.”
