Columnists league appoints Ray Ekpu as VP, Martins Oloja, Ikechukwu Amaechi to key roles
The League of Nigerian Columnists (LNC) has announced the appointment of three distinguished journalists and public affairs commentators to key leadership roles as part of efforts to strengthen the organisation and advance its mission to promote excellence in opinion journalism and informed public discourse.
In a statement signed by the League’s Secretary General, Prof. Anthony Kila, and confirmed by the League’s President, Chief Tola Adeniyi, the organisation announced the appointments of veteran journalist Ray Ekpu as Vice President, Martins Oloja as Membership Secretary, and Ikechukwu Amaechi as Communications Secretary.
According to the statement, the appointments reflect the League’s determination to consolidate its leadership by appointing individuals whose careers exemplify professionalism, integrity, intellectual rigour, and a commitment to advancing journalism in Nigeria.
“The League of Nigerian Columnists remains committed to providing a platform for thoughtful engagement, professional collaboration, and the promotion of high standards in column writing and public commentary. These appointments bring distinguished professionals into the League’s leadership, whose experience and dedication will further strengthen our work,” the statement said.
Confirming the appointments, the President of the League, Chief Tola Adeniyi, welcomed the new officers and expressed confidence that they would make valuable contributions to the organisation’s continued growth.
“The League is fortunate to have among its members some of the finest minds in Nigerian journalism. I have every confidence that these appointments will strengthen our collective commitment to excellence, independent thinking, and responsible public discourse,” Adeniyi said.
Responding to his appointment, Oloja expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in him by the leadership and members of the League.
“It is a privilege to serve the League of Nigerian Columnists in this capacity. Our strength lies in the quality and diversity of our members, and I look forward to collaborating with colleagues to broaden our membership, deepen engagement, and build an even stronger professional community,” Oloja said.
Similarly, Amaechi described the appointment as an opportunity to contribute to an organisation that plays a key role in shaping informed public debate.
“The League represents some of Nigeria’s most respected voices in public commentary. I am honoured by the confidence placed in me and look forward to enhancing our communication, increasing the League’s visibility, and supporting initiatives that promote excellence in opinion journalism,” Amaechi said.
The League noted that the appointments take immediate effect and are part of a broader programme to strengthen its institutional capacity, expand member engagement, and reinforce its role as a leading professional association for Nigerian columnists.
