Chelsea have sacked their German manager, Thomas Tuchel, after the club’s inconsistent start to the current campaign culminated in a Champions League defeat in the hands of the less fancied opponent on Tuesday night.

Tuchel paid the ultimate price, after the Blues’ 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb proved to be the final straw for the Stamford Bridge board and new owner.

His sack was made public via an official statement released by Chelsea football club on Wednesday, September 7.

The club thanked the former PSG manager and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the club, adding that is the right time to make the transition.

Its statement reads, “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club.

“As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.”

The West London club have picked up only 10 points from 6 Premier League games this season, despite spending the most of any English club in the transfer market – £278.4 million ($319.9m/€323m).

Chelsea’s poor form dates back to their 4-0 pre-season annihilation by their North London arch-rival, Arsenal in the United States.

Tuchel’s dismissal came after 20 months in charge, during the period, he won a Champions League title, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup honours.
