The visitor’s gaffer, Jurgen Klopp missed the game after testing positive for Covid-19 before the match and missed the game while his  Chelsea counterpart  Thomas Tuchel dropped Romelu Lukaku from his squad after his controversial interview.

Liverpool raced to a two-goal lead when Sadio Mane scored in the 9th minute after pounced on Trevoh Chalobah’s mistake to put the visitors 1-0,  he was however fortunate to escape with only a yellow card after using his elbow on Cesar Azpilicueta in the opening seconds.

Mohamed Salah doubled Liverpools’ advantage in the 26th minute after he fouled Marcos Alonso before scoring a perfect near-post finish, which gave his side a 2-0 lead.

Chelsea staged their comeback on the stroke of half-time with Mateo Kovacic scoring a spectacular volley in the 42nd minute to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

Christian Pulisic restored parity in first-half stoppage time, after finishing off a well-articulated pass from French midfielder N’golo Konte.

In the second half, both goalkeepers were kept busy in the pulsating encounter with Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy saving efforts from Salah and Mane while Kelleher denied Pulisic a winner.

The draw leaves Chelsea in second place,  10 points behind league leaders, Man City,  while Liverpool, in third, are 11 adrift of the defending champion but with a game in hand.
