The second Group C game played between Blue Sharks of Cape Verde and Lone Stars of Liberia at Estadio Municipal Aderito Sena stadium in Cape Verde, ended 1-0 in favour of the host.
Lone Stars came into he game needing a win to boost their chance of qualification , while Cape Verde also needed a win to keep pace with Nigeria who won Central African Republic(CAR) earlier.
First half ended with both teams levelled at 0-0 , before the home side stole the game at the death in semblance to what happened in the first leg of the double-header in Liberia.
The visitors must have thought they have earned a deserved draw away from home, before Ryan Mendez scored a 90th minute goal to break the heart of the away side.
Cape Verde’s win implies they now have 7points from 4 games and are just 2 points away from the group leader, Nigeria who are on 9 points.
The Eagles however have a head to head advantage over Cape Verde, who they won 2-1 away from home, therefore, another win against them in Nigeria will mean Super Eagles will be out of their reach, even if they lose their last game.
The remaining 2 teams , Liberia and Cape Verde are 6 and 5 points behind Nigeria respectively and can only qualify ahead of Super Eagles if they win their 2 remaining games and Nigeria loses her 2 outstanding games.
In all, a win for Nigeria against Cape Verde in Lagos, will all but guarantee Super Eagles a spot in the next round of African 2022 World cup qualifiers.
