Incoming Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney, has made it clear to United States President, Donald Trump and citizens of his country that his country will win the ongoing trade war.
Canada on March 4 imposed 25 percent tariffs on $30 billion in goods imported from the US, in retaliation of the new levy approved by President Trump.
Speaking amid the tariff war by both sides after his election victory on Sunday evening, 59-year-old Carney advised Americans not to “make no mistake. In trade, as in hockey, Canada will win.”
He went on to accuse the Trump administration of “attacking Canadian workers, families, and businesses”, adding “we can’t let him succeed.”
Carney further stated that Canada faces “dark days brought on by a country we can no longer trust”, urging the people to look after themselves and “look out for each other”
He also advised Canadians that they “need to pull together in the tough days ahead.”

The new leader won the Liberal Party’s leadership contest with 85.9% of the votes with the closest challenge coming from former Finance Minister, Chrystia Freeland.
Carney, who succeeds Justin Trudeau, and is expected to be sworn in as Prime Minister within the coming days. He will lead the Liberals in the next general election.
Taking to his X page after emerging winner, the ex-governor of the Canadian and UK Central Banks tweeted, “Thank you. Now let’s build a stronger Canada, together.”
Carney also praised Trudeau for his “hard work, leadership, and great service to our country.”
