The national leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has disowned its members who paid a solidarity visit to the general overseer of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Biodun Fatoyinbo.
Busola Dakolo, wife of singer, Timi Dakolo, had accused Fatoyinbo of raping her when she was a teenager.The pastor strongly denied the charge.
Reverend Jonah Samson, CAN’s chairman of the Federal Capital Territory and Reverend Israel Akamji, the chairman of the North Central Zone of CAN, visited COZA on Sunday, July 14 to declare their support to theembattled Fatoyinbo.
“We are in support of your pastor. We stand by him and this church will continue to march forward. I said and declare, the gate of hell shall not prevail against this church,” the Pastors had declared during the visit.
But in a statement signed by CAN national director of legal and public affairs, Evangelist Samuel Vondi said that the national leadership has no knowledge of the visit to COZA.
According to him, the officials who went there did so for their own selfish reasons.
“Those who did so did it on their own. We stand by our earlier release on this issue that while we would never support any act of immorality from whatever quarter, we would not jump into passing judgement without thorough investigation of the matter,” he said.
Vondi added that the president of CAN, Rev. O.A. Ayokunle has handed the case over to Rev. Dr. Felix Omobude, the President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) to investigate the case.
