CAF names Nigeria’s Samson Adamu acting General Secretary

Adamu replaces DR Congo’s Veron Mosengo-Omba, who recently stepped down to contest the presidency of the Football Federation of DR Congo (FECOFA).

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Nigeria’s Samson Adamu as its Acting General Secretary.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director of Communications at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ademola Olajire.

Adamu’s nomination was proposed by the CAF Executive Committee and ratified by the Congress at its meeting held on Sunday, 29 March 2026, in Cairo, Egypt.

With this development, Adamu becomes the first Nigerian to hold the position since the governing body was founded more than 70 years ago.

He replaces the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Veron Mosengo-Omba, who recently resigned to participate in the election for the President of the Football Federation of DR Congo (FECOFA).

Prior to this appointment, Adamu served as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events, where he played a key role in organising major continental competitions across Africa.

Samson is the son of Dr Amos Adamu, the former FIFA Executive Committee member who was banned from football following a corruption scandal in 2010.
