CAC to require NIN in an advancing business environment

By Jeph Ajobaju, Chief Copy Editor

Technology is advancing to a level where business and company registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) will soon require just the National Identification Number (NIN) of the registrant instead of his or her signature.

This was disclosed by CAC Registrar General Garba Abubakar who said the partnership of the CAC partnership with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) for upgrade has reached an advanced stage

The partnership is part of CAC reform initiatives for effective service delivery.

Abubakar said when in full steam, the CAC may require only a NIN, instead of a signature, to process business registration as obtained in other countries.

The CAC is “fortunate to have extremely talented, dedicated, and skilled employees who work after hours to approve customer applications,” he stressed.

He promised the training and re-training of CAC personnel in all areas of its operations will continue to receive priority attention to achieve its mandates.

Staff training

Abubakar disclosed that 583 staff members were trained in 2021 and 700 will be trained this year so that everyone will have access to working tools, some of which will come from the World Bank, per reporting by Nairametrics.

He said the tools will enable employees approve registration requests even after regular business hours and urged them to recommit to their jobs, with those in charge of approvals in particular taking precautions to avoid making errors.
