Afrobeats singer and songwriter Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, has broken his tie with his colleague Temilade Anna Openiyi, aka Tems, becoming the African artist with the most Billboard U.S. Hot 100 entries in the process.

The development comes after the 34-year-old artist earned a new entry on the chart this week through ‘Dai Dai’, his collaboration with Shakira for the World Cup.

This achievement leapfrogs him ahead of his compatriot, Tems, with whom he was previously tied on eight entries.

The song debuted at number 75, bringing the Grammy-winning Nigerian singer’s total to nine—the most by any African.

’Dai Dai’ gained fresh momentum after Burna Boy and Shakira performed the song during the World Cup opening ceremony in Mexico.

Apart from his latest feat, the ‘Last Last’ crooner is also the first African artist to chart at least one song on the Billboard Hot 100 for six consecutive years.
