Buni frees 33 inmates to commemorate Ramadan in Yobe

Buni also approved the release of food palliatives to all the correctional facilities for inmates in Yobe to enjoy the Ramadan season

Thirty-three inmates from various correctional centres in Yobe State were pardoned by the governor of the state,  Mai Mala Buni as part of activities marking this year’s Ramadan..

This was made known in a statement issued to pressmen in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital on Wednesday by the Information Officer of the Yobe State Ministry of Justice, Alhassan Sule Mamudo.

According to him, the 33 inmates were freed by the governor based on the advice of the Yobe State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.

He further revealed that the council was led by the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Saleh Samanja.

The statement said: “The Advisory Council, before the release of the inmates, visited Potiskum, Nguru, and Gashu’a Correctional Services for the pardoning. The Attorney General said they visited all the correctional facilities in the state to find out who deserves to enjoy the executive pardon.

“After careful deliberations, the advisory council came up with a 33-man list of inmates for consideration by His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, whom he graciously accepted and approved their release for them to enjoy freedom through the executive order vested on His Excellency.”

Mamudo also added that on the eve of Ramadan, Governor Mai Mala Buni approved the release of food palliatives to all the correctional facilities across the state for inmates to also enjoy the bounty of the Ramadan season.
