Bukayo Saka’s brace helps Arsenal go top of EPL

Bukayo Saka restored Gunners’ lead in added time of the first half before scoring the winner through a penalty kick in the second half

Arsenal leapfrogged Man City to go back to the top of the Premier League after a scintillating encounter with Liverpool at Emirates Stadium.

The North London side opened the scoring just 58 seconds into the encounter when Gabriel Martinelli put them ahead after he was put through by Martin Oedeggard.

Liverpool responded emphatically through Darwin Nunez who got them level when he slid home Luis Diaz’s cross 33 minutes later.

Saka then restored the Gunners’ lead in the added time of first-half after Martinelli broke clear on the counter-attack.

The Reds levelled once again 8 minutes after the break when substitute Roberto Firmino, on for the injured Diaz, fired beyond keeper Aaron Ramsdale.

The host were then awarded a penalty when Thiago Alcantara was judged to have brought down Gabriel Jesus with 14 minutes left to play.

Bukayo Saka stepped forward and coolly convert the spot kick,  scoring his brace for the night and winning the game 3-2 for the home side. 

With the victory, Arteta’s men are now 14 points ahead of Liverpool on the League table.
