Yusuf Buhari, the son of Nigeria’s late former president, Muhammadu Buhari, has signified his intention to vie for a House of Representatives seat in the 2027 general election.
His decision was disclosed on Monday via a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad.
Yusuf’s father ruled Nigeria as president between 2015 and 2023, following an earlier stint as a military Head of State.
He passed away on 13 July 2025, after serving two terms in office as a civilian president.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Ahmad stated in his now-trending post that Yusuf will run for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua federal constituency in Katsina State under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He added that the late former president’s son made the decision after due consultation.
Writing on his verified handle, Ahmad said: “Following wide consultations, Yusuf Buhari, the son of our late boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, has informed stakeholders of his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the All Progressives Congress.”
