Buhari seeks confirmation of Adamu, Ahmad as CBN Deputy Governors

Mrs. Ahmad was first appointed by President Buhari on October 6, 2017, replacing Mrs. Sarah Alade, who retired in March 2017.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday urged the Senate to screen and confirm the nomination of the Director (Human Resources) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Edward Adamu, for appointment as Deputy Governor of the apex bank.

He also requested the Upper Chamber to confirm the nomination of a CBN Deputy Governor, Mrs. Aisha Ndanusa Ahmad, for re-appointment for the second and last term in the position.

Mrs. Ahmad was first appointed on October 6, 2017, replacing Mrs. Sarah Alade, who retired in March 2017.

Her appointment was confirmed by the Nigerian Senate on March 22, 2018.

She is the Deputy Governor for Financial System Stability at the CBN.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, read Buhari’s letter of request on the floor during plenary.

The President, according to the letter, said the request was pursuant to Section 8(1) (2) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) (Establishment) Act 2007.

Buhari also asked the Senate to screen and confirm the nomination of Ambassador Ayuba Ngbako from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for appointment as a member of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

Besides, the President also transmitted the 2023 statutory budget proposals of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to the Senate for consideration and approval pursuant to section 121 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).
