Buhari felicitates with 31st NBA President, Maikyau

Maikyau defeated Joe-Kyari Gadzama (SAN), and Jonathan Taidi, a former General Secretary of the NBA, in the elections held on Saturday, July 16

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Monday, July 18 congratulated the President-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, who was elected as the 31st President of the body.

Maikyau defeated Joe-Kyari Gadzama (SAN), Chairman of the NBA Securities Agencies Relations Committee, and Jonathan Taidi, a former General Secretary of NBA, in the elections held on Saturday, July 16.

The SAN scored 22,342 votes to clinch victory, Gadzama came a distant second after polling  10,842 votes, while  Taidi got a total of 1,380 votes.

Buhari’s message was conveyed through a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, titled, ‘President Buhari congratulates NBA President, Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau.’

The statement read,  “The President congratulates the legal luminary for emerging the 31st President of the highly revered association, which has over the years played a major role in democratic and economic development of the country, with advocacy, counselling, and partnership with governments

“The President salutes the outgoing President of the NBA, Olumide Akpata, and all the national leaders who took the association to a higher level, particularly with building new partnerships and integration of technology.”

The president expressed his readiness for a healthy working relationship with the new national leaders of the NBA, believing the noble and patriotic antecedents of the legal body will be upheld, and further projected to the world.

Buhari concluded by hailing the NBA for the successful conclusion of its elections. 

Other winners include Mrs Linda Bala, First Vice President, Mr Clement Ugo, Second Vice President, Mrs Amanda Demechi-Asagba, Third Vice President, Mr Adesina Adegbite,  General Secretary, and Mr Daniel Kip, Assistant General Secretary. 

Also declared as winners are Mrs Caroline Anze-Bishop, Treasurer. Ms Chinyere Obasi, Welfare Secretary, and Mr Habeeb Lawal,  Publicity Secretary.
