Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and his main challenger in the February 23 presidential poll, Atiku Abubakar, have condoled with families and loved ones of those involved in the Ethiopian Airline which crashed on Sunday.
Buhari and Atiku sent their condolences via their respective Twitter pages on Sunday.
“I am profoundly saddened by the news of the crash involving @flyethiopian, one of the world’s most successful and efficient Airlines. On behalf of the Govt & people of Nigeria, I extend sincere condolences to PM Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia, and to all the countries that lost citizens,” Buhari tweeted.
Also, Atiku, quoting the BBC prayed God to comfort the families of those who lost loved ones in the crash.
“My thoughts and prayers are with all the families and friends of those who lost dear ones in the ill-fated Ethiopian Airlines from Addis Ababa to Nairobi. May God grant their souls rest, and strength and comfort to the deceased families,” Atiku said.
It emerged on Sunday that a Nigerian, Pius Adesanmi, a Nigerian Professor and columnist was among those who died in the crash.
Sahara Reporters said family members of Adesanmi confirmed the news.
Prior to his death, Adesanmi was a Professor of English at Carleton University in Ontario, Canada.
He hails from Isanlu in Yagba East Local Governmant Area of Kogi State.
