The Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum and governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, on Thursday October 15, 2020, declared that some Northern governors were comfortable with the activities of the dreaded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
The governor was reacting to the ongoing #EndSARS protest in Nigeria after his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.
The governor, who had gone to brief the president about the security situation in Northern Nigeria, said that SARS was needed in the zone because of insecurity and the upcoming National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST).
The governor, however, appealed for the reformation of SARS to enable it discharge its functions optimally and not a total ban.
He pointed out that SARS had bad elements and operatives doing their work diligently.
According to him, the baby should not be thrown away with the bath water as the police unit had been useful in the fight against insecurity in the north.
