Tinubu sacks IGP Kayode Egbetokun

By Ishaya Ibrahim

President Bola Tinubu has sacked Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.

Multiple sources within the police told TheNiche that the reported removal is accurate, with Egbetokun set to be replaced by AIG Olatunji Disu, who is widely regarded as highly respected within the force.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, did not respond to calls from TheNiche seeking confirmation of the development.

The reported sack comes barely a week after a Sahara Reporters investigation alleged that Egbetokun’s son, Victor Egbetokun, received N100 million from the Anambra State Government.

Hundeyin previously debunked aspects of the report but confirmed that the N100 million was paid into the son’s account and later returned. However, Sahara Reporters maintained that while the funds were reversed to the state government, they were subsequently withdrawn as cash and handed back to Egbetokun’s son.

It remains unclear whether the removal is linked to the controversy, as Egbetokun, appointed in June 2023, was statutorily entitled to serve until October 2027 under amendments to the Police Act extending the IGP’s four-year tenure.
