For the first time in over five years, there was a change of command at the country’s Naval Commands as Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo took over as Nigeria’s 21st indigenous Chief of Naval Staff (CNS).
Gambo was born on April 22, 1966 and hails from Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
He enlisted into the Nigerian Navy in 1984 as a member of the Regular Course 36 and was commissioned Sub-Lieutenant in 1988.
Outgoing CNS, Vice Admiral Ibot Ekwe-Ibas, charged Gambo to sustain pressure on oil thieves and secure the nation’s maritime sector.
