Nigeria edge past Cote d’ivore in second group game

Nigeria after the win will now play Guinea Bissau in their third and final group game

Nigeria scored a 55th minute penalty against Cote d’ivore to win their first game at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

It was a very tight encounter as both teams finished the first half time without scoring a goal.

Nigeria were, however, awarded a penalty in the second half after Victor Osimhen was deemed to have been brought down in the penalty box.

William Troost-Ekong then stepped forward  to score the spotkick and made it 1-0 to the Super Eagles.

Jose Peseiro’s men then held on to win the Group A encounter.

Nigeria after the win against the hosts will now play Guinea Bissau in their third and final group game.
