BREAKING: INEC office in Kogi set ablaze

The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Dekina Local Government area of Kogi State has been set ablaze by yet to be identified persons.

The office was set ablaze along with sensitive materials for the Dec. 5 governorship supplementary election in 91 polling units across 18 local government councils.

Dekina Local Government is one of the councils where the supplementary election will hold.

Reacting to the incident, the INEC Resident Electoral Commission (REC), Mallam Halilu Pai confirmed the burning of the office at about 2am and said that the development would not affect the forthcoming election.

He said that the burnt election materials are being replaced immediately while INEC had also relocated to a temporary office in the same Dekina.

“We will not succumb to the undemocratic antics of some few, replacement of the election materials are already on the way . The election will go on as scheduled,” Pai said.
