Helicopter crashes into Lagos building on Oba Akran, Ikeja

There was palpable anxiety and panic in Ikeja, capital city of Lagos State on Tuesday following the sudden crash of a helicopter into a building on the ever busy Oba Akran Road.

An eyewitness who spoke to TheNiche said the chopper went up in flames as soon as it landed on the building located adjacent AP filling station and United Bank for Africa (UBA) on the commercial avenue.

The incident, according to the eyewitness, who said he sales computer accessories at the nearby computer village occurred around 3:30pm causing hysteria in the area.

“The scene was scary. It was like a horror movie. I was trekking back to the computer village after supplying a customer on Oba Akran with some products when the crash occurred.

“As the helicopter crashes, after what seemed like an attempt to maneuver its way out of trouble, we all ran to a safe distance,” he said.

It is not yet known who owns the helicopter and where it is coming from. The destination is also unkown yet.

Details of the casualties is also not known yet.

However, four persons comprising two white and two black men, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were rescued from the scene.

NEMA’s Lagos Territorial Office Coordinator, Ibrahim Farinloye, who confirmed the crash, said rescue operations were ongoing.

He said details were still sketchy, adding that information would be provided as soon as they were available.
