Gov Diri picks chief of staff as deputy governor

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has nominated his chief of staff, Pastor Peter Akpe, as deputy governor.
The House of Assembly approved the nomination on Tuesday.

Daniel Alabrah, Chief Press Secretary to the Bayelsa governor, confirmed the development.
Akpe replaces Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo who died on December 11, 2025.
Akpe, a former Majority Leader of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, hails from Ebedebiri community in Sagbama Local Government Area, the same area as the late Ewhrudjakpo.
