Agboola Ajayi with the victory is set for a showdown with the governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa who picked the ticket for the ruling APC

Former Ondo State Deputy Governor,
Agboola Ajayi has emerged the candidate of the major opposition party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after winning the governorship primary election.

Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the deputy governor of Bayelsa, who chaired the electoral committee that supervised the primary poll, announced the results on Thursday evening in Akure, the state capital.

According to him, Ajayi defeated six other aspirants after polling 264 Votes out of the 621 accredited votes, garnering 42 percent of the total votes in the process.

His nearest challenger, Kolade Akinjo got 157 Votes representing 25 percent of the votes, while Olusola Ebiseni, Akinwunmi Harrison, Akingboye Bamidele, Mafo and Tubosun Arebuwa polled 99, 64, 24, 9 and 2 votes respectively.

With the victory, the ex-deputy governor is set for a showdown with the Gov Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who earlier on picked the ticket for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November governorship election.

Agboola was a former deputy governor under late governor, Rotimi Akeredolu before they parted ways following irreconcilable differences.
