The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has resigned his appointment with immediate effect.
His resignation was announced on Monday in a statement shared on X by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the presidential aide, Badaru’s resignation was contained in a letter dated December 1 and addressed to President Tinubu.
He went on to disclose that the minister stepped down from his position on health grounds
Onanuga continued, “President Tinubu has accepted the resignation and thanked Badaru Abubakar for his services to the nation.
“President Tinubu is likely to inform the Senate of Badaru’s successor later this week.”
Badaru, who was a two-term governor of Jigawa state, was appointed as the Minister of Defence on August 21, 2023.
His resignation comes amid heightened insecurity in the country and the declaration of a national security emergency by the president.
