Breaking: Crisis brews in Maritime sector, workers’ strike imminent

-

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) will begin a one-day warning strike on Tuesday July 11, 2017 to protest against the Shipping Companies and their agents which employ workers without recourse to the union.

After checks, one of the union’s chieftain said that the ports would be short down on a nation-wide strike on Tuesday across the country, saying that concrete plans had been put in place.

An attempt to reach out to their headquarters for confirmation and to gather more information proved abortive as everyone was reluctant to speak.

Even the Union leader at the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT/Brawal) declined comments.

As at the time of going to press the executive of the union were yet to respond.
