Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has joined the ongoing protest to demand the real-time transmission of election results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The development was revealed on Tuesday in a trending post shared by an X user identified as Emma ik Umeh (Tcee).

The former minister was seen folding his arms in the midst of protesters carrying various placards.

On Monday, Nigerian youths converged in Abuja, the nation’s capital, for the “Occupy National Assembly” protest against the Senate’s rejection of the electronic transmission of election results.

One of the prominent faces at yesterday’s demonstration was the Labour Party (LP) 2023 candidate, Peter Obi.

Addressing the protesters at the entrance of the National Assembly complex, Obi faulted the Senate’s decision and urged lawmakers to allow the electoral process to run without restrictions.

“Allow the election to go through the normal process. Whatever the outcome is, we will accept it. Why introduce confusion after the process?” the former Anambra State governor said.

According to him, the rejection of electronic transmission of results by the Senate undermines public confidence in the electoral process and raises concerns about transparency and credibility ahead of future elections.
