Chelsea chairman, Todd Boehly has justified why the west London club handed Brazil defender, Thiago Silva, a new one-year contract despite his age.

Under his watch, the Blues have embraced and embarked on a policy of signing younger players on long-term deals.

Speaking after the contract extension, the club chairman described Thiago Silva as a world-class talent, whose experience, quality and leadership skills are vital to Chelsea’s vision in the future.

“We’re delighted that Thiago has decided to continue with Chelsea.
