The immediate past Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hyacinth Dajoh, was on Tuesday suspended from legislative duties over allegations of plotting the impeachment of Governor Hyacinth Alia.

His suspension followed a motion moved by the lawmaker representing Kyan State Constituency, Terna Shimawua.

According to the legislator, Dajoh secretly mobilized members of the Assembly to remove the Governor

He added, “If this plot had not been averted, it would have plunged Benue State into political crisis, thereby truncating the development efforts of the present administration.”

Shimawua further urged the Assembly to suspend the ex-Speaker for six months to enable him “rethink his actions.”

The motion was then seconded by Abu Umoru, representing Apa State Constituency, who recalled that the House had previously condemned similar acts.

He went on to express support for punitive measures to safeguard the integrity of the legislature.

While ruling on the motion, the new Speaker, Alfred Berger, reviewed Dajoh’s suspension from six to three months without the usual votes on such matters.

Meanwhile Benue Assembly on Tuesday made a u-turn and confirmed the nomination of Timothy Yangien Ornguga as commissioner.

Ornguga, who is a law lecturer at the Benue State University, Makurdi, had earlier been rejected by the then Speaker, Dajoh.
