Bayern Munich have overtaken Premier League leaders Arsenal as the favourites to win this season’s UEFA Champions League (UCL).

The Bundesliga giants moved ahead of the Gunners following Arsenal’s surprising 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen in the first leg of the Round of 16.

Prior to the encounter in Germany, Mikel Arteta’s men were viewed as the frontrunners to clinch the title, having won all their league-stage games to finish top of the table.

However, the odds shifted after Arsenal were held to a draw, allowing Bayern to claim the top spot in the rankings.

The Bavarian side are now perceived as the primary candidates to be crowned European champions by the season’s end.

This shift in momentum follows Bayern’s clinical performance last week, where they thrashed Serie A side Atalanta 6-1 in the first leg of their Round of 16 tie in Italy.

Arsenal will be hoping to secure their passage into the quarter-finals on Tuesday, when they host Leverkusen in the return leg at the Emirates.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich appear comfortably through to the last eight, barring a miracle from Atalanta on Wednesday.
